Donyiel Crocker, a self-proclaimed perfectionist, is the artist behind Divine Concepts Jewelry.

Her first pair of earrings were made for her sister, Shirl. Donyiel said after hours of sitting on the couch trying to come up with something different for her, she was inspired by a concept. The concept was about who God created Shirl to be. She stated that her sister has the unique ability to perceive and take a hold of someone else’s vision or goals and make them happen. She is a Dreamcatcher, thus came the name for the earrings made for her. After giving the earrings to Shirl, Donyiel told her the story behind them and Divine Concepts was born.

If you would like to view Donyiel’s beautiful and creative work, please visit online at www.divineconceptsjewelry.com.

Rita Patel creates a variety of one of a kind pieces in the comfort of her Michigan studio. Her works include art, home goods, and clothing.

She has her own website at www.ritapatel.com, but she is fairly new on the Etsy scene, opening her online shop in December 2006. On Etsy.com is where I first saw her beautiful, one-of-a-kind silk and velvet coats. They are among some of the most elegant ones I have come across.

Take a look at her lovely coats and fall in love…with the coats of course. :)

I support Fair Trade, so I am happy to introduce FAIR INDUSTRY to those of you not familiar with the online store.

FAIR INDUSTRY, a one-woman, volunteer supported fair trade enterprise, is based in Princeton, NJ. Founder and designer, Lauren Markley, has created a wonderful line of clothing that is both stylish and functional. Along with classic and drawstring skirts, FAIR INDUSTRY offers tops, trousers, and jewelry. For more info and to shop online, please click here.

Fred Ullom makes some beautiful cashmere scarves, all of which are made by hand. He says that he strives for “subtle elegance” and has an undeniable passion for the finest natural fibers.

“My scarves are frequently more of a tactile experience than a visual one. Usually a mix of hand-dyed silk and Mongolian cashmere, they are superior in both lustre and hand. When available, rare fibers such as Saxon merino, yak, camel, and qiviut (muskox) occasionally make their way into my pieces.” – Fred

In the mood for a little Q & A? Sure you are. After you’re done reading, go on over to Danielle’s online shop, Collective Elements, and take a look around.

- – - -

Q. What motivated you to open Collective Elements in 2006?

A. Ever since I was a little girl, I was fascinated with catalogs. The more exotic, the better. I always dreamed about owning my own business but kept putting it on the back burner. After leaving my 5th job in 10 years, I decided to make my dream a reality. Why not use my diverse skills and background for something I could completely own and be proud of?

Q. Was this your first try at starting your own business? If not, what other business ventures have you been a part of?

A. No, this isn’t my first try at starting my own business but I would say its my first serious venture. In the past, I’ve sold custom stationery and gifts in addition to doing free-lance web and graphic design. I also designed graphics for digital scrapbooking from 2004 to 2005. But these ventures were more hobby for profit.

Q. Why did you choose to have a strong focus on independent designers and artisans instead of offering trendy, mainstream products?

A. Growing up, my mother was my main style idol. She always bucked trends and wore what she liked. She always stressed quality and being unique. As I started shopping for myself, I found myself drawn to things that were different and one-of-a-kind. It was only natural that I would want to fill my shop with the same type of products I’m drawn too. Plus, I’ve always found that independent designers and artisans believe in the “art” of making something not just the resale value.

Be Blessed!

Ayana E.

Always wearing silver or gold? I’m more of a fan of silver myself, but sometimes change can be good. Really.

I am beginning to see more and more of oxidized jewelry…from earrings to necklaces…It’s out there and just waiting on you.

I came across some wonderful pieces at gemmafactrix that would add that extra unique touch to that cute casual outfit you are planning to wear soon. Go on and take a peek. You know you want to. :)

These goods are far from your grandmother’s crochet doilies. Yes, it is true, often when you think of crochet, that comes to mind…at least my mind anyway.

But the great things that Raynelda creates are beautiful & great for the hippest chick! Raynelda designs and personally stitches all items sold at PLC Designs.

Below are my favorite picks from her online shop.

LAYERS, of course!

Sure you can get a slice of your favorite two-layered cake and be quite satisfied, but why not buy one of the beautiful pairs of layered earrings from My Sunset Road? Yeah, cake is good…very good actually, but I am pretty sure if you treat your ears to something so unique and stylish, you won’t regret it. (Your ears will thank you.)

Layers…with no regrets… Visit My Sunset Road now to buy some goodies!

If you have not done so already, you should take a look at what Shevon Gant Ceramics has to offer.

I was recently tagged by Laurie at Blooming Lily to participate in what seems to be an internet meme that’s circulating over blogs.

Here’s how it works:
1) someone tags you,
2) you post five things about yourself that you haven’t already mentioned on your blog,
3) you tag people you’d like to know more about

While, I cringe at the very idea of giving or receiving chain letters, this seemed harmless. So, here goes nothing…

1) I have 3 female gerbils. I received them a couple of months ago from a woman who named them Betty, Fannie, and May.

2) I am obsessed with handbags. I have a few that I have yet to use.

3) I love to cook. I am always experimenting with a variety of foods.

4) I am writing an autobiography that contains some pretty juicy stuff..if I must say so myself. I’m hopeing to have it completed by summer.

5) I majored in both Psychology and Business Management, but haven’t made it to the finish line yet.

I know it wasn’t all that great for you, but hey…Now, you know five more things about me that you didn’t know 5 minutes ago. :)

Who am I tagging? How about Miss Malaprop, Peggy Li Creations, and Fete?

It’s up, so go on and check it out. There are some fabulous gifts just waiting for you over there.

Nothing is more romantic than a cold winter night, sitting by the fireplace, candles lit,

drinking hot chocolate with your favorite person right next to you. Unfortunately for those of us who live in colder climates low humidity can bring on dry, itchy skin. (So much for romance!)

Humidity is the amount of moisture in the air. Warm air holds more moisture than cold air

which is why we don’t get dry skin in the summer! Low humidity dries out your skin and mucous membranes. You might also notice that you have chapped lips or a dry sore throat when you wake up in the morning. Ever wonder why there is static electricity in the winter…yep…it’s the low humidity thing again. (I hate getting zapped every time I get out of the car don’t you?)

I have come across SO MANY awesome shops & indie designers while doing some searching over the ‘net. Many of the shops have been found while visiting the link section of blogs and some of my favorite indie web shops. So, yes…Now, you know that web surfers DO look in the LINK section of your sites. :)

I have decided to highlight some of the shops I come across. Up first is Amet and Sasha…The shop is owned and operated by Jesse in Austin, TX. All of her items are handcrafted and made to order. The site is very EASY to navigate, which is always a plus to me when visiting websites, especially online stores.

Amet and Sasha is currently offering dresses, tops, skirts and accessories. Many of the items are available in sizes from 2 to 18. Jesse’s designs have been featured in several publications, including BUST, NYLON, and VENUS.

Happy Shopping! ~Ayana E.

OK, so…It is 2AM and I just “happen” to be browsing one of my favorite sites (Etsy.com) and I wanted to search for bags. Why? I have no idea because lately, I have been mostly buying beads and other wonderful things to make jewelry with from Esty sellers.

Anywho, I did come across a few other bags, totes, and purses that were “cute”, but these two certainly caught my eye. They are anything but ordinary. I love them!

I have a thing for anything almost anything leather. I have never really been a big fan of leather pants, but that is another story…Ok, back to the GREAT FINDS…

If you LOVE leather as much as I do and are looking for something very unique to carry around, you should check out the two purses below.

a. Beautiful Western or Mexican Style Purse – Rose Pattern – Leather
(Moxie & Oliver; $250.00)

b. Mandarin Moon – Sea heart and leather purse
(Michela; $110.00)

The new ITEMS WE LOVE were picked from members of NoleStyleandBeauty.com.

In search of some great gold jewelry that would be great to wear to a party, we came across some lovely finds from Claudette Jewelry, Laura Knight Jewellery, and Starry Designs.

a. Waves and curves create movement in this seductively rich necklace of garnet, burgundy pearls and natural mother of pearl blossoms. 18″ long. Bar pendant is 2 1/4″ long. 12kt gold filled. (Claudette Jewelry ; $87)

b. A beautiful sterling silver bird’s nest ring with gold Swarovski crystal pearls as the eggs. The nest is held down securely at the four sides. The whole ring is carefully wrapped by Cindy. (Starry Designs ; $24)

c. These lovely earrings are made from faceted Carnelian briolettes, African Opals, which are a beautiful combination of gold and blue, and 10K goldfilled wire components. All of these components were handmade by Laura. They hang just under 2″, and are reasonably lightweight. (Laura Knight Jewellery ; $29)
